Indian Dishes to Try Out for Newbies

With Indian cuisine being vast and varied, exploring a new cuisine for the first time might sometimes be an overwhelming experience as you are not familiar with them. This is where we can help. Here, we have put together some of the Indian dishes that you may give a try.


It is a type of type of baked pastry with savoury fillings in a triangle shape. The fillings may include potatoes, onions and peas and minced meat. It is sometimes served with a chutney sauce.


Naan is a leavened North Indian flatbread, which is traditionally baked by slapping the bread dough onto the side of a hot dome shaped clay oven referred to as a tandoor. Naan can also be flavored with garlic or black pepper for an extra kick. There are also other varieties of Naan available, stuffed Naan being very popular. Options include Naan stuffed with minced meat (Keema), Cheese, Raisins and Pistachios.

Chicken Korma

Korma is originally from the area around the Nilgiri mountain range where herbs and spices grow in abundance. It is a very mild dish cooked in a thick creamy sauce, coconut and almond powder, coconut milk and saffron. Although, chicken korma is the most popular dish, it can also be made with vegetables, lamb, and prawns too.

Onion Bhaji

Indian Fritters, commonly recognised as 'Bhaji' are fried dishes generally made from a mixture of vegetables coated in a richly seasoned batter made from gram flour. Onion Bhaji is Onion slices marinated with fresh ginger, garlic and aromatic pickled spices. Much like the Samosas, it is sometimes served with a chutney sauce.

Tandoori Chicken

Tandoori Chicken is another popular dish and as a newbie you should try it. Chicken on the bone is marinated in yoghurt with herbs and spices and is cooked in the tandoori oven. It is generally savoury.
