Best Indian Desserts to Try Out

Best Indian Desserts to Try Out

Although Indian cuisine is vast and varied and is known for its bold spices and combination of aromas, Desserts are not widely acknowledged. The most common ingredients being used for Indian desserts are milk, coconut, butter, dry fruits and sugar.

Here, we bring for you just a few popular Indian Desserts which explore the different flavours and textures.

Matka Kulfi

It is an ideal Dessert for warmer weather. It is a frozen milk based dessert, like an ice-cream, although texture and taste differs, as kulfi is denser and creamier. Unlike ice-cream, Kulfi is not whipped, resulting in a solid, dense frozen dessert similar to traditional custard based ice-cream. It can come in a wide variety of different flavours, although more traditional Indian flavours are cream, rose, mango, cardamom, saffron, and pistachio.

Gulab Jamun

These are fried, sugar soaked dumplings that can be served either hot or cold. They are made from milk solids and kneaded into dough, before being rolled into small balls and deep fried. They are then soaked in sugar syrup which can be flavoured with green cardamom and rose water or saffron. It is often garnished with dried nuts like almonds to enhance flavour.

Gajar Ko Haluwa

This Dessert is mainly associated with North India. It is made from grated carrot, with water, milk and sugar. Like many other Indian Desserts, nuts and other items are usually added, and sauted in ghee. It can be served either hot or cold.
