Different Indian Breads to Try Out

As with the Indian curries, there also are options for you, when it comes to choosing bread. Naan being the most familiar and popular choice, isn't the only option available to you. Here, we have brought for you some of the Indian breads that you may try out.

Paratha

Paratha is an unleavened North Indian layered flatbread made by baking whole wheat dough on a griddle, and finishing off with shallow frying with ghee or oil. It is similar to Roti but is thicker as it folded at the sides during the flattening process. It is available in plain variant or can be stuffed with vegetables like potatoes and cauliflower. It is generally enjoyed with a blob of butter, pickles or a bowl of curd.

Naan

Naan is a leavened North Indian flatbread, which is traditionally baked by slapping the bread dough onto the side of a hot dome shaped clay oven referred to as a tandoor. Naan can also be flavored with garlic or black pepper for an extra kick. There are also other varieties of Naan available, stuffed Naan being very popular. Options include Naan stuffed with minced meat (Keema), Cheese, Raisins and Pistachios.

Tandoori Roti

Tandoori Roti is another type of Indian unleavened bread which is usually made in a clay oven called a tandoor and commonly enjoyed with chicken, lamb or other non-vegetarian dishes. Vegetarians out there, don't worry. It tastes just as fabulous with vegetarian curry dishes as well!

Chapati

Chapati is a flat unleavened bread made using finely ground whole wheat flour, water and salt, that is cooked on a griddle or concave tawa. It is relished with curries or cooked veggies.
